Sustainability Policy

2. Sustainability Policy

Last updated : 15.02.26

2.1 Purpose

This Sustainability Policy guides how The Rwenzori Rainmakers production and its impact campaign The Rain Starts With Us operate with environmental care, social fairness, and positive community influence. It frames how we minimise negative impacts, lead by example, and share learnings with audiences and partners.

2.2 Scope

This policy applies to every stage of the project — from planning and production to outreach, distribution, and impact work — and extends to all team members, partners, contractors, and suppliers.

2.3 Our Commitments

We commit to:

  • Reducing environmental impact: Minimise carbon emissions, waste, and unnecessary resource use.
  • Supporting community rights: Respect people and cultures in every location we work.
  • Being transparent: Measure and report progress openly.
  • Inspiring action: Use the project’s reach to inform and motivate sustainable behaviours.

2.4 Sustainable Production Practices

Carbon & Energy

  • Set carbon reduction goals and track emissions wherever possible.
  • Prioritise renewable energy and efficient equipment.

Travel & Transportation

  • Encourage low-emission travel and offset unavoidable emissions.

Materials & Waste

  • Reduce single-use items; prioritise reusable materials and clear recycling.

Catering

  • Source food locally and seasonally; minimise disposables.

2.5 Human & Community Rights

We honour the dignity, privacy, and cultures of all people involved. We practice fair labour standards, equitable pay, and safe conditions, and seek informed consent before using people’s stories.

2.6 Supply Chain & Vendor Standards

We choose partners and suppliers whose environmental and ethical practices align with this policy. Contracts will reflect sustainability expectations where applicable.

2.7 Impact Campaign & Audience Engagement

Our impact work focuses on education, measurable outcomes, and authentic engagement — supporting real community initiatives and sharing actionable insights with audiences.

2.8 Monitoring & Improvement

As the film’s project leaders, Zuleika Kingdon and Jacqui Doughty alongside Elsie Karioke at DoccieSphere, will track, report publicly (annually), and support continuous improvement. We review this policy yearly and update it with new goals and best practices.
